Unit 5.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Title of Site:

Stupeflix

Description of Site:

Stupeflix is a great video tool for educators. This is a service that allows users to easily create video montages using images and audio clips. Stupeflix resembles Animoto but has some different aspects not found on Animoto. The only thing I do not like about this site is the limit they put on free videos. You will have only 60 seconds for each video you make for free. A personal account is $5/month, allows private videos, unlimited downloads, the ability to save videos to your account and an HD upgrade option for $5 per video. You can also upgrade to pro which is $29/month. Pro allows private white-label videos, unlimited HD 720p videos, commercial licensing, 150 exclusive tracks and the ability to unlock all features. Personal and pro accounts do not have ads whereas the free account does. All accounts have the ability to share videos, but I didn’t come across any features for collaboration. Teacher accounts are available, but again, there is a fee.

Stupeflix enables its users to add audio clips to their images to make entertaining videos. Images can be uploaded right from your computer or via image hosting websites such as Flickr and Phtobucket. The same goes for the sound tracks, you can either use a pre-provided sound clips from Superflix library or upload your own. Once your video is ready you can then share it on Youtube or other social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter. Again Free users will only be able to share videos on Youtube and Facebook, no download is available for them. I believe that this tool is appropriate for students in grades 7-12.

Educational Uses of Site

Stupeflix would be of great use as a project. Students can research a particular topic, find photos or videos, and upload them to Stupeflix. It’s a great option for those students who want to make something a little more creative and easy to use. Instructional videos can be used in the same way for those teachers who are tired of creating PowerPoint presentations and don’t have enough time to create something like a Prezi.

Review of Site

Stupeflix is a great Web 2.0 tool for educators. It is very user friendly, and allows you to make free videos or pay for a subscription. If you aren't sure if Stupeflix is for you, you are able to create a video without creating an account. I will definitely incorporate Stupeflix in my classroom, and even in my everyday life. There are so many different themes to choose from that you can create a video for almost anything. Some themes are only available for paid subscriptions, but there are still many choices for the free version. This tool also has music suggestions and allows you to upload your own. It's a great tool for students to show what they have learned and allows them to be creative.
